Are You Retaining Water? What To Do About Edema…

edema-2

Water retention, edema, bloating.  Uncomfortable health challenges that much too many people suffer with.  But what exactly constitutes water retention?  When one has too much fluid that has accumulated in body cavities and tissues, we must understand this is the body’s cry for help from a problem of imbalances and not enough water.  If we do not feed the body enough water, it tries to compensate by retaining fluid causing these levels to go out of balance.

What are some other health issues related to water retention/edema? Liver problems, kidney problems, circulation, blood pressure, pre-menstrual issues, and pregnancy problems.  All these are associated.

How do you know if your symptoms are caused from retaining water?  If you have and feel swollen ankles, feet and hands, and your belly feels as if it is bulging (also caused from wearing tight clothing) then you could be retaining water. If you see a significant shift in the way your clothing fits one day, then very tight and fitted the next, head feels heavy and achy, then your bloating is probably hormone induced also related to menopausal changes or PMS (most definitely if suffering from estrogen dominance).  Constipation, lack of exercise, allergy symptoms, and even weather and climate changes can have an impact on water retention.

So what are the causes of holding on to so much fluid?  Serious dieting and weight control can cause one to remove foods from the diet that provided the body with natural water.  Diet imbalances are direct causes if they are ones that include red meat, too much salty food, MSG, not enough B complex vitamins, potassium, and most definitely water retention will occur is  you have a diet with not enough protein.  You could also be suffering with dehydration.  Pharmaceutical diuretics, birth control pills, alcohol, and steroidal drugs all cause dehydration.

If you are suffering with chronic edema, consider circulatory problems (such as spider veins and varicose veins), kidney, bladder and liver challenges.  Natural herbal therapies are known to balance metabolism and body chemistry to correct the challenge rather than just helping the body to release fluids.

If your water retention stems from Kidney/Bladder challenges then consider there is an emotion root cause.  Kidney issues also stem from harboring specific negative emotions. The two main emotions that affect the Kidneys are:

  • Fear (TCM – Traditional Chinese Medicine)
  • Unresolved Forgiveness (Holistic Medicine)

Understand please, Family and Friends, that holding on to and harboring these emotions of Fear and Unresolved Forgiveness is to surely weaken the kidneys and eventually one will begin to experience physical signs of kidney problems.  If you know you are holding on to these very emotions, the good news is, strengthening and balancing the kidneys helps you in turn feel strong enough to let go of these emotions.

12 Physical signs of Kidney problems:

  • lines under the eyes
  • purple, deep, dark circles under the eyes
  • puffy eyes
  • fluid retention
  • constant lower back pain
  • frequent, painful urination
  • weak bones (TCM)
  • fatigue specifically between 3pm and 7pm
  • fevers, chills, trembling
  • high blood pressure
  • a dull constant ache in the lower back may indicate kidney stones
  • ear problems, hearing loss, chronic ear infections (in adults and children)

A diet that is mainly vegetarian, low in starch and high in plant based-protein is best to prevent water retention. Dark green vegetables and fruits like lemons, limes, and grapefruits are foods that alkaline the body and help as well.

Eliminate the following: fried foods, salty and sugary foods, caffeine foods, and carbonated beverages which impede the kidney from filtering waste. Avoid dairy foods, starches, fats and heavy grains since these cause clogging and mucous.

Use the following combined for flushing support, to normalize and balance the whole body and the most vital organs from a Chinese medicine perspective, and increase kidney activity:

Breast Cancer in Men, Women, & What You Need To Know

Newly updated October 12, 2016.

Breast Cancer. These two words make women AND men shudder in today’s day and age. It’s gotten to the point that most people know someone with breast cancer, and/or know someone who knows someone with breast cancer.

Cancer isn’t just one disease, but a number of diseases. There are four types of cancerous growths known as the following:

  1. sarcomas – affecting bones, muscles, and connective tissue
  2. leukemias – blood cancers
  3. carcinomas– affecting mucous membranes, skin, glands, and organs
  4. lymphomas – affecting the lymph system

Understanding these different types of cancer growths, know that there can definitely be more than one cancer in a location. And what do these 4 cancers have in common? Cells that become abnormal became de-sensitized to normal growth ‘guidelines’, then the damaged cells grow uncontrollably and may spread or move (metastasize) to other parts/areas of the body.

Here are the most recent 2016 U.S. Breast Cancer Statistics:

  • About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
  • In 2016, an estimated 246,660 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 61,000 new cases of non-invasive (in situ, or ‘on site’) breast cancer.
  • About 2,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2016. A man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000.
  • Breast cancer incidence rates in the U.S. began decreasing in the year 2000, after increasing for the previous two decades. They dropped by 7% from 2002 to 2003 alone. One theory is that this decrease was partially due to the reduced use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) by women after the results of a large study called the Women’s Health Initiative were published in 2002. These results suggested a connection between HRT and increased breast cancer risk.
  • About 40,450 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2016 from breast cancer, though death rates have been decreasing since 1989. Women under 50 have experienced larger decreases. These decreases are thought to be the result of treatment advances (in my opinion, an increase in natural herbal therapy treatments also), earlier detection through screening (women should choose, in my opinion, Thermography Scans as opposed to mammograms, which I will discuss in this article), and increased awareness.
  • For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
  • Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. In 2016, it’s estimated that just under 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women will be breast cancers.
  • In women under 45, breast cancer is more common in African-American women than white women. Overall, African-American women are more likely to die of breast cancer. For Asian, Hispanic, and Native-American women, the risk of developing and dying from breast cancer is lower.
  • In 2016, there are more than 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer in the U.S. This includes women currently being treated and women who have finished treatment (conventional medicine treatment).
  • A woman’s risk of breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Less than 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.
  • About 5-10% of breast cancers can be linked to gene mutations (abnormal changes) inherited from one’s mother or father. Mutations of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are the most common. On average, women with a BRCA1 mutation have a 55-65% lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. For women with a BRCA2 mutation, the risk is 45%. Breast cancer that is positive for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations tends to develop more often in younger women. An increased ovarian cancer risk is also associated with these genetic mutations. In men, BRCA2 mutations are associated with a lifetime breast cancer risk of about 6.8%; BRCA1 mutations are a less frequent cause of breast cancer in men.
  • About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.
  • The most significant risk factors for breast cancer are gender (being a woman) and age (growing older).

Know which women have one of the highest risks?… Overweight women are at higher risk. Why? If you’re more than 25% above your ideal weight, your risk rises because since there is a high level of fat cells in an overweight woman, it is important to note  that fat cells are the storage depots for environmental estrogen (causing the estrogen dominance issue I so often talk about), pesticides, organ-chlorine residues and other chemical toxins.  If you are about 30 years of age, Ladies, and are overweight, this increases the long-term risk of breast cancer, too.

Other risk factors in women include:

  • those who had their period before age 12
  • those who did not go through menopause until after 55
  • those who did not have a child before 30
  • those who did not carry pregnancy full term
  • those who smoke

Women whose diet are rich in dairy foods and meats have higher risk. Most animal meats are injected with hormones today, and we already know what these hormones are capable of doing to our bodies.

Another fact? Women who eat whole natural soy beans, (and I don’t mean the soy-derived foods like soy meats, or what some call ‘fake food’, etc.) I mean those who eat the true whole natural soy beans (organic is best, of course), have lower levels of circulating estrogen! Yes, my friends!

img_20161012_225039-1

Vegetarians/Vegans are less at risk of breast cancer because they do not consume injected hormonal meats!… I feel I should write this again… Vegetarians are less at risk of breast cancer because they do not consume hormone-injected meats! Next, birth control use, estrogen pesticides, and long term synthetic estrogen are also risk factors for breast cancer.  Let’s fight Breast Cancer by having a FOCUS ON OPTIMUM HEALTH! Want to know one of the BEST keys to fighting breast cancer? REGULAR EXERCISE. It absolutely alters your body chemistry! So instead of large numbers of fat deposits which store excess estrogen, regular exercise will increase fat metabolism, which helps ‘out’ excess estrogen from the body.

Now, Ladies and Gentlemen, let us discuss Mammograms…  Most people believe having mammograms is breast cancer prevention. And this is far from true. Early detection is absolutely important, yes, yet we MUST understand that a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention should be the primary goal.

Mammograms are known to damage breast tissue and these damaged tissues can become abnormal and cancerous! There is a reason why studies from the 1970’s and 80’s show that mammograms should not be done without suspected cause. The scientific community itself is debating whether death rates from breast cancer are reduced at all by mammograms in women under 50! Younger women’s breasts are dense, so mammograms only detect dangerous lesions in young women about 50% of the time. And did you know that mammograms can not help with distinguishing between slow growing tumors and aggressive ones? Want another shocker? One study by the National Cancer Institute showed that radiologist reports of mammograms were false positives 16% of the time!

It has been documented that women over 50 who have routine annual mammograms may receive UP TO 3 FALSE POSITIVES in their lifetimes! Can you just imagine the emotional imbalance and trauma this causes? Did you also know that even more research also shows mammograms miss cancer 15% of the time! This is so detrimental that by the time the tumor is found because it has reached a ‘detectable size’, it has probably been growing for 7-10 years or more… This then means it could have also spread.

What is the next option? DITI (Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging).
Also known as Thermography.
Thermography does not expose you to radiation or damage breast tissue. It takes measurement of skin surface temperature to determine cancer risk, looks at heat patterns, and to detect tumor growth it looks for specific changes in the blood. Thermography can detect changes years before it shows up on a mammogram. Thermograms are very precise in that they involve a scan of not only the breast, but the under arms (where lymph nodes are located), the upper chest (known to be where the majority of cancers begin), and the entire chest. It can also show how other body organs are doing, determine if there are imbalances and what might be causing them. Taking things a step further, experts say it can also show if an organ or system is prone/susceptible to tumors before there are even signs on a CT scan or X-ray.

The FDA stated in 1982, that Thermography is a highly advanced health scanning technique that offers the benefits of breast cancer screening without the drawbacks of mammogram radiation. Close to over 19,000 articles worldwide have been written about its success. So why, oh why don’t most people choose Thermography instead of mammograms? Most people don’t know they have this option. Many times it is not offered. And it pains me to say, that in the over 21 years I have in practice, I have noticed it is hardly offered at all to minority women… Refuse to put your breasts in that extremely painful caveman-like device of a mammogram, Ladies! The high rate of false positives and false negatives, their link to fibroids, X-ray-harmed breast tissue, and damaged, bruised breast tissue, has women considering thermography which offers a non-invasive technique to keep them better informed of their breast health. Ask for a Thermography. Be adamant about it. You will be glad you did!

Now let’s get down to the nitty gritty, as they say… Do you know what signs should alert you to possible breast cancer, whether you are a man or woman? Here they are:

  • Nipple discharge
  • Scaly skin patches around the nipple
  • Nipple retraction, inward nipple
  • Breast lumps, especially firm lumps with poorly defined edges that don’t move when touched or don’t change during your cycle, often along with breast skin irritation or dimpling and change in breast texture or color (these are truly serious signs)
  • enlargement of lymph nodes in the armpit
  • Chronic swollen sores around the mouth, gums or jaws
  • severe unexplained morning nausea
  • hypothyroidism due to low iodine can be early warning signs to watch for

TIME TO MAKE CHANGES. REDUCE BREAST CANCER RISK. IF YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH BREAST CANCER, IT IS TIME TO FINALLY FEED THE BODY WHAT IT NEEDS TO FIGHT ABNORMAL CELLS AND SHRINK TUMORS. REGAIN YOUR HEALTH! >Diet, Diet, Diet… I have heard time and again, “You mean I have to STOP eating steaks, chicken, turkey, and pork chops, Dr. Julissa? Really?” My answer: ABSOLUTELY. Or we cannot prevent or help the body heal itself. “How could this be”, you ask? Reducing animal fats in your diet alone cuts your breast cancer risk by 33%! Let’s have a better look into this…

Beef is very difficult to digest and will putrefy for days in the intestines keeping toxins in the body. Chicken and turkey, except organic, are riddled with injected hormones. And again, even organic chicken and turkey must be reduced to reduce risk simply because they are animal fats. I personally recommend women discontinue all meats altogether, organic or not, if they are dealing with breast challenges or have a genetic family history of breast challenges. And why stop eating pork to prevent risk of breast cancer or to help the heal from breast cancer?! Get ready! And no, I am not referring to the religious reasons why some choose not to eat pork. Although they have chosen well! First, naturopathic medicine teaches us ‘there is no such thing as cancer without a presence of parasites…’. And PORK is THE ONLY MEAT THAT RETAINS PARASITES. This means, there is NO degree of heat a person has available to cook pork meat that will kill the parasites that infest this meat. Also avoid blackened, barbecued meat. These have carcinogenic hydrocarbons. Fresh wild- caught fish, and even then one must be careful, eaten ONLY OCCASIONALLY, is preferred, and must be well cooked! In other words, no raw fish, sushi or sashimi. Parasite infestation must be kept to a minimum. And so eliminating fish would be a positive change as well. Remember, Vegetarians/Vegans are at the lowest risk of developing breast cancer.

Fried foods, sugary foods, junk foods, snack foods, alcoholic drinks high in sugar, and dairy foods; all these foods high in fats and trans fats should be avoided to reduce the risk of breast cancer.  All in all, becoming a Vegetarian/Vegan is best for disease prevention in general.

What to eat to prevent breast cancer and increase healing? -Increase your intake of organic foods in general: such as organic fruits, organic vegetables, whole grains and natural soy beans. Pesticides, GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and other toxic substances sprayed onto non-organic foods should be avoided as much as possible.

-Tomatoes and watermelons improve breast health

-Broccoli should be eaten daily. It contains estrogen-absorbing properties; again organic broccoli is best. Dark green vegetables as a whole should be increased in the diet.

-And an important fact I must bring to your attention is the following: There is no breast health with a presence of constipation’. To prevent breast cancer one must be sure to have proper bowel elimination, meaning the normal 2-3 bowel movements per day we should all have to help prevent disease. Of course a poor diet is one contributing factor to constipation, but also in many cases, constipation is due to a dry colon and ‘bad’ eating. DRINK MORE WATER TO REDUCE BREAST CANCER RISK BY 79%!

Purchase purified water or consider a RO (Reverse Osmosis) water filtration system.  And again, organic foods are the way to go to prevent disease in general. Lastly, and extremely important to remember is that, HERBS ARE FOOD AND HELP THE BODY TO HEAL ITSELF. And diet improvement is necessary and  primary because up to 50-70% of cancer risk is determined by your diet.

Natural therapies consisting of herbs are forgotten when most people think of their diet. Poor nutrition will change body chemistry. The immune system cannot defend the body properly when biochemistry is altered. It cannot tell its own cells from invading toxic cells, and in confusion may attack everything or nothing. A proper diet consisting of the right foods I mentioned and the food our earth provides and that was placed to help us treat our ailments, is definitely the place to start.

Most people with breast cancer feel radiation and chemotherapy are the only options available. Yet, why use conventional therapies that ‘try’ to kill abnormal cells but also kill good healthy cells in the process?

Alternative healing options have proven worldwide to help countless people overcome this life-rattling disease every day!

The following healing protocol has been recommended to my patients and clients with breast cancer, breast cysts, breast fibroids, and fibrocystic/dense breasts, general abnormal cell and benign breast challenges, with immense continued success. It is used to detoxify carcinogens, discourage tumor growth, reduce tumors with natural anti-neoplastons (components of a biochemical defense system that controls cancer without destroying normal, healthy cells), inhibit cancer, increase natural killer cell activity, deter cancer, inhibit cancer cell reproduction, balance hormones, and to help the body fight cancer:

19 Symptoms That Indicate Your Adrenals Need Support

adrenal-glands

Newly updated August 2, 2016

This gland is your gland, this gland is my gland.

Endocrine glands secrete hormones into the bloodstream. These chemical messengers have specialized tasks in the body and control a myriad of bodily functions, including sleep, growth, sexual development, metabolism, tissue repair and more. Glands can become weakened by stress, a poor diet, chemicals in our food and air, and many other factors. Such weakness can manifest as low energy, low sexual desire and other imbalances.

Facts about the glandular system, especially, your adrenal glands:

  1. The adrenal glands, two of the most important glands in our body, are the size of grapes.
  2. The adrenal glands can be weakened by physical and environmental stressors.
  3. Weak adrenal glands are often a cause of low sex drive (low libido) and insomnia.
  4. The glandular system relies on trace minerals for specific nutrition, but food processing often eliminates them from our diet.

How do you know if your adrenal glands need support? Do you have:

  1. constant fatigue?
  2. low blood pressure?
  3. hard, pebble-like stools or constipation?
  4. unusually low sex drive?
  5. craving for salt or salty foods?
  6. mood swings, especially anxiety, panic, or phobia?
  7. feeling colder than those around you?
  8. problems with memory, focus or concentration?
  9. chronic pain in the lower neck and upper back?
  10. nervousness?
  11. inability to concentrate and or confusion?
  12. drinking caffeinated beverages on a daily basis?
  13. extreme sensitivity to odors and/or noises?
  14. lack of the sensation of fullness after eating?
  15. aches and pains of limbs, unrelated to exertion?
  16. mood swings?
  17. vulnerability to food reactions/allergies?
  18. abdominal fat, love handles, a pot belly, etc.?
  19. feelings of apathy? (Feeling that you are not good enough?  Feel like not doing much of anything? Feel like you can’t do things? Feel as though there is no point in doing most things?)

If you answered yes to 4 (four) or more on this list, it may be time to consider using a natural therapy to build the adrenal glands.  If 6 (six) or more items are checked, your adrenal health is likely poor and now is the time to start taking a natural therapy to support your adrenal glands.  Glandular supplements and adrenal supplements help improve overall glandular system health.

Help your adrenal glands and glandular system reach optimum health with the following supplement I recommend:

13 Tips For Healthy Aging, And More (Reposted from my Healthy Living Blog With Additional Notes)

The fountain of youth … a magical elixir that prevents aging, illness and death.

It sounds great, but for those of us with a more realistic outlook on life, we can do simple things right now to feel good and to help give our bodies their best shot at longevity.

Here are 13 of them:

13 Ways to Age Healthy

1. Stay active. Keep moving. Walk, work in the garden, play tennis or golf. Do anything that sounds fun if you can. Not all of us will be skydiving on our 80th birthday, but regular activity keeps the circulatory and respiratory systems in better shape, burns calories, warms us up, and helps lower the risk of debilitating diseases. And it’s good stress therapy.

2. Use your brain every day. Do mental math, crossword puzzles, jumbles, etc. Keep those neurons firing and active to help preserve healthy neural pathways. Also eat brain foods and brain supplements known to support brain health and function.

3. Antioxidants. Fight cellular damage to your skin, eyes and circulatory system by getting plenty of antioxidants in your diet. These nutrients have extra electrons that neutralize dangerous free radicals caused by sunlight, pollution, radiation and other things in our environment. Choose colorful fruits and vegetables, including leafy greens like spinach, purple and red fruits, orange and yellow veggies, tomatoes, dark chocolate and more. Or drink your antioxidants in a potent beverage like Thai-Go® or in a supplement like Super Orac.

4. Put things on your calendar. Look forward to a concert, a family gathering, lunch with friends, etc. Australian researchers found that elderly people who are more social live longer compared to those with fewer friends.

5. Drink plenty of water. Proper hydration keeps blood and waste moving and helps the kidneys flush toxins and waste out of the body.

6. Take a nap! Naps may help combat stress in the body. One study of 24,000 people found that those who take a nap regularly are 1/3 less likely to die from heart disease than those who don’t get regular naps.

7. Go fishing. At the dinner table that is. Fish provides important essential fatty acids, including omega 3s and 6s, that are often lacking in our diets. These EFAs support circulation, heart health, brain health, blood pressure and more.

8. Eat less. Cutting back on calorie consumption by 20–25% is enough to increase your lifespan markedly. Instead of filling your stomach, fill your time with learning, moving and socializing.

9. Get a little nutty. Adding uncooked nuts and seeds to your diet adds important trace minerals like selenium and the essential amino acid tryptophan. The former helps quench free radicals and eliminate heavy metals, and the latter helps with both mood and sleep.

10. Pray. A 12-year study of adults over 65 shows that people who attend religious services more than once a week had stronger immune systems than those who did not attend services. They were also less likely to die (early). Worshipping together creates strong social bonds between friends, which may boost health.

11. Sprinkle on the seasonings. Shakespeare was right. Rosemary is for remembrance. Cooking with herbs like rosemary, sage and turmeric can help improve mood and memory.

12. Watch your waistline. Being overweight puts you at risk for heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and other unwelcome conditions. Stay active and eat smart to keep your weight in check and disease at bay.

13. Invest in a healthy future. Get a physical once a year, and stay on top of your recommended health screenings.

*Additional Tips from Dr. Julissa:

-Practice Prayer/Meditation. In an article I’ve reposted on my website titled, ‘Mental Medicine’ by Dan Bischoff, “Tibetan monks sometimes live to be anywhere from 100 to 120 years old. And it isn’t uncommon to find a monk that looks to be in his 40s who is actually 80. The secrets of these age-defying abbots is not a pill or a fountain of youth, but healthy living practices that include long hours of mindfulness meditation.”

-Let Go more. In other words, let go of those things you know you cannot change. Especially let go of trying to change other people. Focus more on You. Forgive. And stop holding grudges. It only hurts you. Let Go…

-Love more, laugh more and enjoy life more! Laughter extends the ‘life clock’. Do more of the things that bring laughter and joy into your life. Don’t be afraid to show how much you care for someone. Show more love to others. Lastly, love yourself and treat yourself lovingly so others know how they should treat you.)

Stay Young!

12 Physical Signs Of Kidney Problems

  1. kidneys-3d

Everyone knows Kidney health is not to be ignored. And everyone says that kidney challenges are painful and serious. Even kidney stones are known to be so painful it has been described by those suffering from them that the pain feels worse than giving birth and worse than a heart attack!

Kidney challenges also stem from harboring specific negative emotions. The two main emotions that affect the Kidneys are:

  • Fear (TCM – Traditional Chinese Medicine)
  • Unresolved Forgiveness (Holistic Medicine)

Understand please, Family and Friends, that holding on to and harboring these emotions of Fear and Unresolved Forgiveness is to surely weaken the kidneys and eventually one will begin to experience physical signs of kidney problems.  If you know you are holding on to these very emotions, the good news is, strengthening and balancing the kidneys helps you in turn feel strong enough to let go of these emotions.

12 Physical signs of Kidney problems:

  • lines under the eyes
  • purple, deep, dark circles under the eyes
  • puffy eyes
  • fluid retention
  • constant lower back pain
  • frequent, painful urination
  • weak bones (TCM)
  • fatigue specifically between 3pm and 7pm
  • fevers, chills, trembling
  • high blood pressure
  • a dull constant ache in the lower back may indicate kidney stones
  • ear problems, hearing loss, chronic ear infections (in adults and children)

Another sign that the kidneys are in a weakened state is, yes Ladies and Gentlemen, premature aging!  In another article I’ve written on this blog, ‘Longevity, Youth & Health’, I wrote the following in reference to kidney health:

{Immune deficiency, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, is associated with the condition of the Kidneys. The kidneys are known as “the clock of the body”. History points to many Chinese scholars and physicians who achieved longevity by eating kidney traditional Chinese herbs and tonics. In My Teaching to Posterity, a literary classic by a Chinese scholar named Yan Zhi-Tui in the 6th century, he said, “I have been in the habit of eating kidney tonics throughout my life, which is why I could still read fine print when 70 years old with no gray hair on my head.”.  Even two Chinese emperors were famous for their longevity due to their firm beliefs in Traditional Chinese Medicine and to their regular practice of taking kidney tonics. ; Emperor Jia-Jing and Emperor Qian-Long.}

So if you’re dealing with too many wrinkles for your age, if your hair is graying too quickly, if your appearance is that of one in which you ‘look’ older than you truly are, then stop spending large sums of money on wrinkle creams and hair dyes. The kidneys should be your focus for a long, youthful, healthy life.  In these organs lies the true fountain of youth

So what are people doing that causes kidney disease and/or kidney stones?

First, kidney function becomes impaired, especially in elderly people, who chronically use NSAIDs drugs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), pain relievers such as Aleve, Motrin, and Advil. The high levels of creatinine in the body that these drugs cause are the reason for the impaired kidney function. This explains why an article in USA Today says that over 350,000 people in US are on kidney dialysis. Kidney dialysis is a treatment used to filter the impurities from the blood that the kidneys and bladder can no longer handle. And USA has THE HIGHEST dialysis death rate IN THE WORLD.

Kidney stones are something that humans have been dealing with since the beginning of humanity, according to scientific studies. Would you believe that in 1901, kidney and bladder stones were found in the pelvis of a 7,000 year old egyptian mummy 4800 B.C.? Here are the stones scientists found:

With that said, know that kidney disease and kidney stones are absolutely diet-related. A diet consisting of high fat, fried foods, dairy products, red meat, carbonated drinks, sugar and/or drug overload, aspirin, overuse of prescription drugs, salt and chemical diuretics. All of these are a sure way of developing kidney disease.

Diabetes is usually involved. Deficiencies in the body of B-vitamins, magnesium, and essential fatty acids, are also found in those with kidney diseases. High levels of aluminum, heavy metal poisoning from cadmium (from smoking cigarettes) and lead, are usually found on kidney disease tests. Allergies and low thyroid, hypothyroidism, also play a role in kidney disease. Adrenal stress and an overuse of antacids contributes to kidney stones.

And what exactly are kidney stones? These form when minerals that normally float freely in fluid eliminated by the kidneys combine into crystals. If the body has too little fluid and inorganic material overloads the body, kidney stones will form. When a stone blocks the urinary tract, it then results in debilitating and excruciating pain.

Preventing kidney stones depends on balancing and strengthening the kidneys with the right foods and herbs (herbs, of course, are also considered foods for the body).

Dehydration is a key factor in kidney stone formation.  So DRINK WATER! At least 6-8oz. glasses daily or half of your body weight in ounces! And drink water during the day!  It is not recommended to drink water right before bed.  It is also not recommended to sleep with water in the bedroom. This energy, according to Chinese medicine, weighs on the body during sleep and can cause unrestful sleep and nightmares.

A diet that is mainly vegetarian, low in starch and protein is best to prevent kidney stones. Dark green vegetables and fruits like lemons, limes, and grapefruits are foods that alkaline the body and help prevent stone formation.

Eliminate the following: fried foods, salty and sugary foods, caffeine foods, and carbonated beverages which impede the kidney from filtering waste. Avoid dairy foods, starches, fats and heavy grains since these cause clogging and mucous. Studies also show that TUMS, the antacid, increases the risk for stone formation.

At first, the body may not show any symptoms of kidney stones except for a dull ache in the lower back.  Yet, when the stone or stones become large enough to block the urinary tract, as I said before, the pain radiates through the body and becomes excruciating, debilitating, with constant urgency to urinate and extremely painful urination.  Other signs that the body specifically needs a kidney stone cleanse are:

  • a distended abdomen
  • women who have anemia or heavy menstrual bleeding
  • vitamin K deficiency

When an infection has set in, there is nausea, vomiting, fever and chills.

Use the following for kidney flushing support, to normalize kidney activity, reduce kidney inflammation, and to cleanse and detoxify the kidneys:

To help the body break down, flush kidney stones, and prevent recurrence of stones, combine:

Use the above programs individually for minimum 6 months to stimulate optimum kidney function.

In the photo below, I am here with my patient, Juanita Harris, and her husband. Juanita was a new patient of mine of only 4 months at the time of this picture.  She came to me looking for help when she was diagnosed 5 months prior with impaired kidney function and a risk of needing dialysis.  That month, September 7, 2012, 4 months after beginning her natural therapy program with me, she arrived for her followup appointment with copies of her newest lab results and was told by her allopathic conventional doctor that her kidneys were functioning beautifully again and no longer needed to see him!  Truly a blessing! How I love my job! So very grateful~🙏
